Grace Short

CFA Gallery is pleased to present this exhibition of new works by Grace Short. Having previously exhibited at Drabinsky Gallery over the past 15 years, her work is well known by Yorkville collectors. Now based in Los Angeles, she is known to migrate seasonally north to Toronto and to her home in Muskoka. Her technique of cold wax layering and stripping out to reveal unique textures and surprising effects evoke many worlds. Starting with the precept of ¬†attractors to light, shape and abstract design, this process oriented approach of trial and error reveals itself along the way. Always working wet on wet, the painting’s alchemy is discovered by pouring, dripping, stamping, scraping, peeling all of which creates a richly textured space. The work exists between the unpredictable and the controlled, the intuitive and the systematic, the hidden and the evident.
