Ian McLean

In his oil paintings, Ian focuses on an other-worldly approach to familiar residential environments with an emphasis on unusual colour and expressive paint application.
He has exhibited at several Toronto galleries including Loop Gallery, Angell Gallery, Gallery Moos, Tatar Gallery and Harbourfront Centre and is a former member of the Loop Gallery artist collective.  Regional exhibits have included the Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant (Brantford), Forest City Gallery (London), Transit Gallery (Hamilton), the St. Thomas-Elgin Art Centre (St. Thomas), the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery (Sarnia), Handworks Gallery (Saint John, NB), and Sopa Fine Arts (Kelowna, BC).  Ian is the recipient of multiple Ontario Arts Council Mid-Career Visual Artist grants and is a North American semi-finalist in the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series competition.  He holds a degree in Studio Art from the University of Guelph and studied under Suzy Lake, Harold Klunder, and Tony Scherman.
Ian is based in Sarnia, Ontario and is represented by CFA Gallery, Toronto and in western Canada by Sopa Fine Arts. His work is held in private and corporate collections across Canada and internationally.
