Harold Klunder (born 1943) is a Dutch-born Canadian painter celebrated as one of Canada’s most significant contemporary abstract artists. He emigrated with his family to Canada in 1952 and trained at Central Technical School in Toronto. Klunder is known for richly layered, textural canvases that unfold over years, blending figuration and abstraction in a deeply expressive visual language. His work, rooted in a personal notion of the self-portrait and informed by art history, is held in major Canadian public collections and has been exhibited widely since his first solo show in the 1970s.
