Artist Origin: Canadian Artist Type: Historical works of significance Born: 1922 Died: 2014
Bobak’s most celebrated paintings feature masses of figures going about their leisure. Parades, beaches, and most significantly midways and exhibitions appear as subjects which challenge a painter to freeze a moment in time. Finding order amongst a chaotic scene of not only people, but of marks on the canvas was a deftly honed skill for Bobak. Not to be missed are her deftly crafted floral studies and still life paintings. In both Oil and Watercolour, her focus on detail, colour and composition reflect the intimate side of her practice. Considered an East Coast painter, Bobak was a presence in the Ottawa art scene prior to moving to Fredericton with her artist husband Bruno Bobak. Bobak is considered Canada’s first female war artist and covered life and toil of Canadian soldiers overseas.
