Gyrth Russell (1892–1970) was a British-born painter whose lyrical landscapes and atmospheric rural scenes earned him recognition in both Britain and Canada. Trained at the Slade School of Fine Art in London, he developed a distinctive style rooted in direct observation, expressive brushwork, and a sensitive response to light and landscape. Although his career was centred in England, Russell exhibited widely in Canada and became well represented in Canadian collections, where his work appealed to collectors seeking the enduring traditions of British landscape painting alongside historical Canadian art.
